I used Tunisian simple stitch to crochet a case for my awesome new phone. The phone is so new that there aren’t many cases available yet, and the protective skin I ordered has not arrived yet…I can’t risk damaging this thing in the first week!
This case seems to be the perfect size for the iPod touch and larger smartphones such as the iPhone and Sony Xperia Play. Finished dimensions are approximately 3 inches by 6 inches.
When I finished seaming, I realized that this would also work well as a case for eyeglasses!
Suggested yarn:Knit picks Felici in the Rainbow colorway
50-70 yards of fingering weight yarn.
Tunisian/afghan hook, size F(5)/3.75mm
Chain 43. Working into the bump on the back of the chain, insert your hook into the second bump from the hook, yarn over and pull up a loop. Keep this loop on the hook. Repeat for all remaining bumps in the chain. At the end of the row there should be 42 loops on the hook.
Do not turn the work. Keep working from the front.
YO, pull through 1 loop on the hook. *YO, pull through 2 loops on the hook.* Repeat *to* until there is only 1 loop remaining on the hook.
Insert hook behind the 2nd vertical bar from the hook, right to left. YO and pull up a loop. *Insert the hook behind the next vertical bar, YO and pull up a loop.* Repeat from *to* until there are 42 loops on the hook.
Work 40 rows in Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS). One row in TSS includes 1 return pass and 1 forward pass.
To cast off
Complete 1 return pass. Complete the forward pass as follows:
Insert hook behind the 2nd vertical bar from the hook, right to left. YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through both loops. There should be 1 loop remaining on the hook. *Insert the hook behind the next vertical bar right to left. YO and pull through both loops* Repeat from *to* to the end of the row. Do not fasten off.
Fold the work in half so that the stripes are oriented horizontally. SC the two edges together down the long side and the bottom edge to form a pouch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
